Frankfurt Cathedral

Frankfurt Cathedral of Sts. Bartholomew (German title «Kaiserdom St. Bartholomaus»)  is the largest cathedral in the city, which is only 2 km from the Atrium City Hotel in Frankfurt.

Cathedral was always more Keizer than the cathedral and was a symbol of Germany and Frankfurt in particular. The cathedral was built in the Gothic style, showing a power and beauty of this line in architecture.

The coronations of rulers were held in Frankfurt imperial cathedral, and in the XIX century it became a symbol of the unity of the nation.
History of the cathedral has more than one hundred years. It is assumed that it is conducted from the XIII century, and from the same time (1239) St. Bartholomew has been its patron, who was one of the disciples of Christ ( it is believed that Bartholomew and Nathanael – is one and the same person).  He preached Christianity and was executed. The most valuable relic of  Frankfurt Cathedral is the top part of his skull stored here.

Cathedral partially destroyed in 1867 as well as during the Second World War, and later was restored.

Today, Frankfurt Cathedral is one of the famous places, associated with Frankfurt on the Main, and it is a few minutes walking from the Atrium City Hotel.
